1. Judging for the entire department will be on the Danish System (all exhibits judged on their own merits and not in 
competition with other entries). No prizes will be given if the judges feel there is no merit.

2. Exhibits will be under observation at all times during the fair. Security guards will be on duty during the night, however 
the Association is not responsible for anything damaged, lost or stolen.

3. Limit is one entry per category. 

4. Any exhibit using material on the Preservation list of Connecticut as published by the Federated Garden Club of 
Connecticut, Inc. or using artificial flowers will be disqualified.

5. Please classify and list your exhibit in the order given in this book on the entry form using class numbers for 
each category.

6. Entry forms must be received by mail, no later than Tuesday three days before the fair. Absolutely no entries will be accepted 
after that date. The committee will accept exhibits on Thursday the day before the fair between 5:00-7:00 pm. No unregistered 
entries will be accepted.

7. Exhibits must be picked up on Sunday between 5:30-7:00 pm. No exhibits to be removed before 
5:30 pm Sunday. Exhibits not picked up by 7:00 pm will be discarded. Any winnings will be donated back to the Portland Fair.

ADULT’S ARRANGEMENT

• Plant materials for all adult arrangements may be home grown or purchased. No artificial flowers.

1. Our Kitchens - A kitchen arrangement should be in a kitchen container and use one kitchen accessory. Materials may be 
home grown or purchased. 

2. The Soloist - An arrangement using one flower. Can contain foliage and an accessory.

3. Autumn Bounty - Flower Arrangement in a pumpkin or gourd. Materials may be home grown or purchased. No artificial 
pumpkins or gourds. 

4. Fall Breezes - An arrangement using grasses and chrysanthemums.

5. Petite Pleasures - Miniature Arrangement. An arrangement in any container. Arrangement not to exceed 5”. Materials 
may be home grown or purchased.

6. Bountiful Basket - A flower arrangement in a basket. Include at least one fruit or vegetable in the basket. Materials 
may be home grown or purchased.

7. Cosmopolitan - An arrangement using pinks and reds in any container. Use your imagination.

8. Dish Garden - Live plants in a shallow dish, saucer or container no larger than 9" x 15" rectangle or 12" round.

CHILDREN'S ARRANGEMENT
• Plant materials for all children arrangements may be home grown or purchased. No artificial flowers.

1. Trick or Treat - Flower Arrangement in a pumpkin or gourd. (Ages 4-9)

2.  Cartoon Favorite - An arrangement based around a favorite cartoon character, accessories permitted. (Ages 4-9)

3.   Make Someone Happy - A colorful arrangement or centerpiece to make someone smile. (Ages 10-13)

4.   BOOquet - Flower Arrangement in a pumpkin or gourd. (Ages 10-13)

5. Sport Scensation - An arrangement depicting your favorite sport. Accessories permitted. (Ages 14-17)

6. Floral Medley - A flower arrangement that best depicts your favorite song. Please include the song title with the 
           arrangement. (Ages 14-17)

SPECIMEN FLOWER
• Must contain three (3) or more stems with leaves for Categories 1-6.
• One entry per class per person. 
• Entries must be grown by exhibitor.

7. Other - Use Your Imagination. One (1) stem not to exceed 18" in length
8. Berried Branch - One (1) stem of a berried branch not to exceed 18” in length
