1. Judging for the entire department will be on the Danish System (all exhibits judged on their own merits and not in 
competition with other entries). No prizes will be given if the judges feel there is no merit.

2. Exhibits will be under observation at all times during the fair. Security guards will be on duty during the night, however 
the Association is not responsible for anything damaged, lost or stolen.

3. Each exhibitor is allowed one entry in each class. 

4. Any exhibit using material on the Preservation list of Connecticut as published by the Federated Garden Club of 
Connecticut, Inc. or using artificial flowers will be disqualified.

5. Please classify and list your exhibit in the order given in this book on the entry form using class numbers for 
each category.

6. Entry forms must be received by mail, no later than Tuesday three days before the fair. Absolutely no entries will be accepted 
after that date. The committee will accept exhibits on Thursday the day before the fair between 5:00-7:00 pm. No unregistered 
entries will be accepted.

7. Exhibits must be picked up on Sunday between 5:30-7:00 pm. No exhibits to be removed before 
5:30 pm Sunday. Exhibits not picked up by 7:00 pm will be discarded. Any winnings will be donated back to the Portland Fair.

ADULT’S FLOWER ARRANGEMENT CATEGORIES

Plant materials for all adult arrangements may be home grown or purchased. No artificial flowers
Bouquet with composition from cut flowers, foliage, herbs, ornamental grasses or other plant material

1. Petite Pleasures - Miniature flower arrangement in any container, and arrangement not to exceed 5” total height

2. Autumn Bounty - Flower Arrangement in a pumpkin or gourd, may be live or artificial


3. Our Kitchens - Flower arrangement in a kitchen container and contain one kitchen accessory

4. Dish Garden - Live plants in a shallow dish, saucer or container no larger than 9" x 15"

5. Autumn Floral Table Centerpiece with Candle - Floral centerpiece that could be used for the holidays

6. Wild Flower Collection - Creative gathering of wild flowers and grasses

7. Potted House Plant - Hanging, flowering, cactus or foliage or any combination

8. Fairy Garden - Small dish garden with accents

CHILDREN'S / YOUNG ADULT'S FLOWER ARRANGEMENT CATEGORIES
 Plant materials for all children arrangements may be home grown or purchased. No artificial flowers.

1. "Trick or Treat" - Flower Arrangement in a live or artificial pumpkin or gourd. (Ages 4-9)

2. 'BOOquet' - Flower Arrangement in a live or artificial pumpkin or gourd. (Ages 10-13)

A flower arranging session will be offered for children on Friday night at the fair.  Supplies will be provided and participants may take their arrangements home.

SPECIMEN FLOWER CATERGORIES
Entries must contain three (3) or more stems with leaves for Categories 1-9 below. Only 1 entry per class per person. All specimen entries must be grown by exhibitor.

1. Hydrangea
2. Chrysanthemum
3. Zinnias
4. Marigolds
5. Astors
6. Roses

7. Dahlias - if dinner plate dahlias, may use one stem
8. Berried Branchs
9. Other - Use your imagination. One (1) stem of a branch of evergreen foliage not to exceed 18" in length
